On Multi-Level Modeling as a remedy against the “Language-as-Fixed-Effect Fallacy”

چکیده
Statistical analyses in psycholinguistics are often done by two separate ANOVAs for repeated measures, over subjects and over items. Multi-level modeling (MLM), by contrast, combines all random factors, subjects and items and any others, into a single full analysis. This property alone makes multi-level modeling superior over conventional single-level ANOVA techniques. This paper explains the basics of MLM, and it compares multi-level and ANOVA analyses using Monte Carlo simulations. This comparison shows that disaggregation in ANOVA analyses yields F ratios that are too high, which leads to incorrectly reporting small effects as “significant”. As a further demonstration of the possible benefits in data modeling, previously published results were re-analyzed with MLM. Other advantages of MLM are: permissiveness against heteroscedasticity, robustness against missing data, and suitability for latin-square and other incomplete designs. Although technically complex, MLM is likely to be a beneficial tool for research in psycholinguistics.

The aim of the present work is to prepare an adsorption package to simulate adsorption / desorption operation for both single and multi-component systems in an isothermal condition by different mechanisms such as; local adsorption theory and mass transfer resistance (rigorous and approximated methods). Different mass transfer resistance mechanisms of pore, solid and bidispersed diffusion, t...
متن کاملAdaptive Neural Network Method for Consensus Tracking of High-Order Mimo Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems
This paper is concerned with the consensus tracking problem of high order MIMO nonlinear multi-agent systems. The agents must follow a leader node in presence of unknown dynamics and uncertain external disturbances. The communication network topology of agents is assumed to be a fixed undirected graph. A distributed adaptive control method is proposed to solve the consensus problem utilizing re...

This study investigated the effect of Narrow Reading (NR) on learning mid-frequency words. Vocabulary Size Test (VST) designed by Nation and Beglar (2007) was administered as the first pre-test to 196 students, from among whom 91 students whose vocabulary size ranged between 2100- 3500-word families, , became the target of this study and were randomly c...

In this research, Fischer Tropsch synthesis (FTS) has been modeled in the fixed bed chromatographic reactor for the first time by applying a rather complex dispersed plug flow model for fluid phase and linear driving force (LDF) model for adsorbent. Model equations are dynamic, multi-component, non-linear and heterogeneous including reaction and adsorption simultaneously Complex kinetics fo...
